I came across a story this week about a rooster sanctuary in Colorado urging people to reconsider trying to raise chickens to create their own egg supply. Potential problems are two-fold:

  1. The chicks bought at the feed store may very well turn out to be roosters, which means no eggs.
  2. Hens’ ability to lay eggs isn’t unlimited, and once they’ve passed that point, they’ll need medical care and support.

Neither scenario is ideal for the average homeowner, so what happens next?

While roosters that won’t lay eggs is a very specific situation, we’re constantly hearing stories that prove the importance of animal sanctuaries again and again. Animals must be rescued from an abusive or neglectful situation, like the exotic pet trades or exploitative situations. A retiree from a zoo needs a new home. A farm animal needs medical treatment or isn’t living up to the farm’s expectations.

There are organizations around the globe coming to the aid of animals in need, but many of them, like that Colorado sanctuary are at capacity. Others are struggling to keep the lights on as costs rise and donations shrink.

We’ve been lucky enough to work on animal welfare public relations strategies with some amazing organizations, and we recognize that there are many, many moving parts. At Orange Orchard, we try to cover as many bases as we can:

  • Media outreach: Our goal is to get the sanctuary and its mission in front of as many eyes as possible.
  • Content creation: From press releases to blogs and everything in between, our team is on hand to craft compelling stories.
  • Strategy: Our team is great at brainstorming, too. From fundraising to attracting volunteers, we’re ready to think outside the box and help you on both efforts.

We’re here to help your sanctuary grow and keep saving animals. Call us at (865) 977-1973 or contact us online and let us get started.
