Plant-based food trends were a hot topic in 2018. Baum + Whiteman declared plant-based dining as the No. 1 dining trend for the year. In October 2018, Kroger announced plant-based foods would be one of their top trends for 2019.

Both Baum + Whiteman and Kroger both cited data from market researcher Mintel, which had some interesting numbers, including:

  • 31% of Americans participate in meat-free days, such as Meatless Mondays.
  • 83% are going plant based to be healthier in general.
  • 62% are choosing to eat plant-based food for weight purposes.

Standing out among the crowd

There are a lot of reasons Americans are making the shift toward plant-based foods, from health concerns to personal ethics. As more and more consider plant-based alternatives, the market is being flooded with choices. Maybe your company is even one of those offering healthy, plant-based options.

A plant-based and vegan public relations agency can be the deciding factor between your company getting lost in the shuffle or standing out among the crowd. After all, that same Mintel data also said the number of food products marked vegan jumped 257% between 2012 and 2016. That number is only going to get higher.
