Growing up, I had a staple food when my family went on vacation: cheeseburgers. It didn’t matter if I’d had one for lunch. I’d go ahead and order one for dinner, too. And yes, I remember one time I even had one for breakfast. When I was a kid, plant-based options weren’t a common thing, if they were a thing at all. As an adult, I have delicious cheeseburger alternatives — no, really! — like the Impossible Whopper or burgers I make at home with alternatives I can buy at the store.
But an interesting Fortune article has me wondering: When’s the last time I saw an ad for my Impossible Whopper? Writer Brian Kateman hints that “plant-based meat is running out of steam …” He notes that while many fast-food chains have introduced plant-based items, many have removed those same items or slacked off on marketing and promotion.
Kateman says plant-based is still the future (and helps ensure a future for us), but the trends are troublesome. Those in the industry must work to stay ahead and in front of their target audiences. Kateman hits the nail on the head:
Successful companies will get ahead of what people want, addressing the customers’ values with a product so innovative that they wouldn’t have thought of it themselves.
From marketing to advertising, there are plenty of ways to get your new product or service in front of the right folks. One of the best ways, though, is to partner with a plant-based public relations agency. At Orange Orchard, we understand the plant-based and vegan industry because we’re living in it.
