As green construction public relations experts, our team at Orange Orchard is always looking for the next disruptor who will be able to improve efficiency and sustainability in the construction industry.
Here are three green construction trends for 2019 that we see as having the potential to do just that:
- Disaster-proof construction – From 1980 to January 2018, natural disasters have caused an inflation-adjusted $1,537.4 billion in damages in the United States. 2017 was the most costly year to date, and the upward trend of billion-dollar natural disasters appears to be continuing. Look for construction tech companies—like the startup Boxabl, who has begun prototype production of a fireproof house via modular home construction—to start bringing disaster-proof construction ideas to market.
- Recyclables – The construction industry produces a lot of waste. According to a report by Transparency Market Research, construction waste will nearly double to 2.2 billion tons by the year 2025. This type of waste growth must be mitigated, and soon. Several barriers exist that must be overcome, but companies like Recon Services are trying to redefine construction and demolition recycling to make it more efficient and economical.
- BREEAM® USA – According to Construction Junkie, “A new construction standard, called BREEAM, is hoping to disrupt the United States’ green building certification world with its impending New Construction Standard Release in 2019.” While LEED® certification has been the gold standard for companies looking to stay committed to responsible building operations (like the awesome Sierra Nevada LEED certified, Platinum brewery in Mills River, North Carolina), BREEAM (originally created in the U.K.) hopes to enter the U.S. market and offer a solution that adds more structure to the design process and less hassle to get approval.
At Orange Orchard, we have a passion for bringing the word of organizations like yours out into the world to help bring about change. And as a division of Ripley PR, we have the added benefit of knowing the key players in the construction trades and what types of stories they want to cover. If you own or operate a business committed to green construction and sustainability and are looking to get the word out about your services in 2019, we want to talk to you.
